There is so much to write about Quebec City I decided to break it up into two posts. Here is Part 2 of Romantic (And Historic) Quebec City.

Before we get started I just wanted to say that there are those of us who are die hard romantics whenever we have the opportunity to encounter the past. How did they live, who walked these same floors, what did they do in their spare time (no TVs or video games back then)? I hope you, the reader, can understand and just live in the moment as you visit Old Quebec City.

In the old town itself there are many small hotels. As you walk by the doors you would be hard-pressed to know that there was even a hotel inside. Camping is available outside the city walls and on the Ile d’Orleans if that is the idea for your romantic getaway.

Another very romantic thing to do it is to enjoy an old fashioned horse and carriage ride old quebec, romantic getaway around the old town. If the evening is a little bit chilly the driver will provide you with a blanket as you enjoy your sightseeing tour. Of course, your guide will take you on a ride through the history of Old Quebec and what it was like living in Colonial France.

Perhaps the experience that Québec City is most famous for is the Winter Carnival held every winter for about two and half weeks during the month of February. It is Quebec’s version of the Mardi Gras and boasts several events and activities during the two week span. Dog sledding races, a “polar bear” swim and a giant ice slide below the Chateau Frontenac are some of the highlights.

On this romantic trip history abounds. There remains to this day an old cannonball from the Seven Years War (or so the legend goes) that is embedded in the base of a tree along one of the main streets in the old town. You can’t beat the combination of history and romance on your getaway to Vieux Quebec.

Québec City in Québec, Canada is truly a favorite city of mine. Go, enjoy and if you are lucky enough to visit then leave some comments. Let me know what I’ve missed, let others know what they need to see and do when they travel to Québec City.

Embrace each other!
